Train Like a Boxer!
Deirdre Fabian

Boxing is a passion for Deirdre, who started it just for fitness but fell in love with the workout and the lifestyle that it gave her. She found balance with boxing in her life.

Today you will learn how to train like a boxer. Deirdre Fabian is a great example of balance in life using the sport of boxing.

Deirdre believes in positive thinking and starts her day with her protein shake first thing in the morning. She feels it puts her in a healthy state of mind. “When I get up, I like to have positive thoughts and start the day with a protein shake. I believe that we decide what our life is going to be like. If you wake up in the morning and have a bad attitude, well that’s what your day is going to be like. It’s a mind over matter a way of thinking. I just have faith in what I am doing and that helps.”

Balance is what fitness is today. Everyone knows you need to eat clean and drink water and do your reps and your cardio - that is standard today. What we are all looking for in our workouts today is balance.

What is balance? It’s a mix of all of your values! Values lay the groundwork for your goals. Goals lead to the fulfillment of your mission. Your mission leads to the realization of your life’s work and your legacy. Now you don’t need to be rich to be balanced. You just need to have drive, passion, and a mission in mind for yourself.

Everyone has their own secret to being fit. You just need to find yours. Examples are good for us. We can see how and what fit people do to find balance, learn their secret to staying fit and use those parts of their experience that may work for us.

This is what Deirdre's Balance Wheel looks like:

Personal Passion - “I started boxing to get in shape and I literally fell in love with the competition, the physicality and how hard it was. I have always kept boxing in my life. Now, I teach classes at several gyms, coach teams and help kids get on teams. I love all forms of exercise, but boxing is always at the core of my workouts.”

Career & Financial - “I teach physical education for K-6 during the day. As a schoolteacher, I really have to practice what I preach. When I talk to my kids about what to eat or how to be more physical, they know that I really do those things and make those choices. It’s tough, but my students give me great motivation. I like to share my passion for boxing with my kids and then use their energy and excitement to fuel my passion.”

Community - “The sense of community that I have built over the years through boxing at different gyms and teaching my kids and sharing my passion with family and friends is amazing. I am lucky, but I work hard at maintaining my community every day. When I need help, it is there for me. It’s the most powerful part of my wheel. Community completes my wheel for me!”
